When to Seek Emergency Care for Your Pet

The easiest answer as to whether you should seek emergency care for a pet is when you feel his or her medical condition is serious and cannot wait.  When discerning whether your pet needs emergency care, consider if she or he is exhibiting certain symptoms or has experienced any of the following:

  • Unconsciousness

  • Hit by car

  • Falling from heights

  • Physical trauma

  • Foaming from mouth

  • Unresponsiveness

  • Blue, purple or pale gums

  • A cat exhibiting open-mouth breathing

  • Cat straining to urinate

  • Bleeding heavily

  • Profuse vomiting or diarrhea

  • Difficulty breathing

  • Seizures

  • Ingestion of toxins, medications or any suspect substance
